About Tameka Matae

I am a Pittsburgh native, an avid seamstress, and a former Clarissa School of Fashion Design student. I caught the sewing "bug" early on since my mother and my grandmother sewed too!

When I was 16, my grandmother was kind enough to gift me my very own Kenmore sewing machine, purchased with her coveted Sears credit card. I was thrilled! After considerable nagging, somehow I managed to convince her that I needed a serger too!

I worked as a tailor for several years but quickly realized that I detest alterations. However, I’ve always adored the polished looks of the Hollywood starlets in classic movies

and admired my grandmothers in their hats and gloves every Sunday morning. That was the beginning of my ongoing love affair with vintage fashions!

Many moons ago, I started vintage shopping for myself but uncovered far more treasures than I could have ever imagined, (or fit over my wobbly bits). So in 2011, I opened an Etsy shop featuring curated apparel, lingerie,
men's wear, children's wear, and home decor treasures discovered during my day-to-day scavenger hunts.

Like many of you, I discovered that vintage sizing is NOT kind to curvy girls! I've always been quite self-conscious, and I pretty much gave up on finding anything that would fit my figure and my style. So, I decided to launch a line of limited edition vintage-inspired apparel, lingerie, and accessories that evoke the romance and glamour of a bygone era.

Over the years my designs have been featured in The Boston Bay-State Banner, The New Pittsburgh Courier, The Pittsburgh Press, TheRoot.com, the KDKA Morning Show, and Pittsburgh Fashion Week.

I welcome your suggestions, and hope to make your vintage dreams come true!
